But the CL 1B is also a tube and transformer design, adding a further layer of sonic interest. I'm gonna post this in another thread concerning the CL1B. Optical compressors are prized for their musical behaviour, making it easier to dial in a good sound. This is where the 'EQ After Compressor' toggle comes in as CL1B can get a bit too rich/dark at times BUT you can sculpt it back into shape with the PE1C & ME-1B EQs - which are a lot cleaner sounding than other emus out there - but I guess that's the point heh The CL1B adds a silky, warm, smooth & (here we go) analogue vibe. The CL1B can then work it's magic and you can easily boost the end result by up to +30dB (I think, on lappy at mo).Īs a 100% 'In-The-Box' mixer I fully appreciate this plug-in. If you use Free-G (or similar) to trim the signal back to -18 before you hit it all those 'grainy' and 'fast-release sounds crap' problems will immediately vanish.
I should have realised this from owning the FET as it will similarly overload (almost ring-mod effect) if force-fed.
I was getting that 'grainy' vibe with the CL1B originally until I realised you're supposed to be hitting it peaking at -18dB rather than -12 or -6 (I originally stuck it on the 2-bus). Featuring numerous sonic enhancements and new high-resolution.
Developed by Softube, the Tube-Tech CL 1B MkII plug-in for UAD hardware and UA Audio Interfaces is an update of this iconic optical compressor used by modern artists like Kanye West, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and more. I've been demoing the Softube Channel Strip this week and for me it's a No-Brainer purchase - especially with the special deals on right now. The preferred vocal compressor for pop, hiphop, and R&B.
